2009 Breeders’ Cup World Championships (Nov 6, 7)

Be the first to comment on this post

Santa Anita will host the Breeders’ Cup World Championships again this year with the 14 races held over two days and total purses of $25.5 million up for grabs. There have been a few changes this year to allow for an all Breeders’ Cup Pick Six on both days, with the Marathon moving to Friday because of this and also increasing in distance to 1 3/4 miles. Friday will have six races starting with the Marathon followed by the five distaff divisions, with the feature race being the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic (formerly the Breeders’ Cup Distaff) worth $2 million. Saturday will have eight races, with the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) at a mile and a quarter still the feature and final race pf the day. Pre-entries will be released on October 29 and I will get them online as soon as possible.

Television coverage for the Breeders’ Cup will be on ESPN and ESPN2 with the schedule so far being:

          • Friday, November 6, 3:30-7:00 ET on ESPN2
          • Saturday, November 7, 1:30-7:00 ET on ESPN

Check here for the latest TV schedule including preps and preview shows.

Here are the races with purses, conditions, and post times for both days. Just click the race names to see the contenders, plus each horse’s name links to a detailed profile for him or her. Good luck with your handicapping and enjoy what should be a spectacular day of racing at its finest. Note that all post times are Eastern Time.

I can’t believe it…. there was a “National Day of the American Cowboycelebration in Marshall, NC and I missed it! According to Gene Blankenship:

“We held our Cowboy Day event in Marshall which included a Kids Ranch Rodeo and a Team Roping event that evening, all to celebrate the Cowboy Day and the Cowboys of Western North Carolina.”

Gene is Pastor of Land of the Sky Cowboy Church in Buncombe County, and I understand he may be starting a Cowboy Church in Haywood County. Please click his icon below to see his website and his family:

Here is a copy of the Governor of North Carolina’s Proclamation of the “National Day of the American Cowboy 2009” kindly sent to me by Gene.

Stay tuned for news about the 2010 “National Day of the American Cowboy,” and updates about plans for the Land of the Sky Cowboy Church in Haywood County.
